Post-Zoom Q&A Series (3 of 3): Pool Design – What’s In, What’s Optional & What’s Next

Daleview Members & Community,

Thank you so much to all who attended the Zoom Presentation last week or watched the recording, and to all who have asked great and important questions.  Your thoughtfulness and commitment to the pool and its future have been so evident throughout this process, and we are all very grateful for the high level of engagement.

From the beginning of this work last summer, our focus has been on making sure that everyone is heard in this process.  Since the Zoom presentation, we have seen a few key themes in the questions we’ve received. We wanted to reach back out to you all with clarifications and updates on our progress in areas we don’t yet have complete answers.

Question:  I’ve heard about a lot of components of the proposed pool design, and I am confused – which pool design components are necessary for code and/or strong membership survey responses, and which are more “optional” and can easily be removed from the design to reduce the costs?

The following design components make up the proposed “base” pool design and address the code requirements and the most common membership requests from the survey from last summer:

  • A learn to swim area
  • An up-to-code diving well
  • 6 Competition lanes, with lanes 1 and 6 being 50% wider
  • A shade structure (Pergola & Covered Space)
  • Required site improvements to code (parking lot, driveway, etc.)
  • Pool house refresh

The following amenities are included in the design and cost estimate that was presented and recommended by the committee but are not required by code:

  • The addition of 1 lane which, added to the 50% wider lanes 1 & 6 above, will make a total of 8 competition lanes (cost being itemized now)
  • 2nd Diving Board ($26k)
  • Waterslide into the Diving Well ($50k)
  • New Baby Pool
  • Raised Trex Decking ($150k)
  • Fountain for Baby Pool ($20k)

The Committee is working hard right now with our design partner, NVBlu, to update and verify the cost estimate(s) for the new “base” pool design, itemized by the various components of the pool design.  We are also continuing to explore potential project cost savings, for instance, through modifications to the deck areas.

Looking at the next 50 years of Daleview Pool, the committee and board believe the “base” pool design with 8 lanes plus the new baby pool will best serve as a strong foundation for both our current and future families. The remaining amenities under consideration should be strongly considered in order to further bolster the member experience and facility aesthetic.

Again, thank you so much for taking the time to engage and learn about the exciting plans for Daleview’s future. We look forward to sharing more in future emails, especially about cost estimates, as we noted above.  As always, if you have questions or feedback please contact us at [email protected] and feel free to visit https://daleview.org/renovation/  to learn more about the project. We are always committed to listening, adjusting, and moving forward together.

Thanks,

Daleview Board and 2.0 Committee
